The basics

Two gauges

Your TP (from weaponskill combos) and your familiar's TP (from its auto-attacks and Aetheric Burst). Both cap at 250 and are spent separately — on instinctual axes and on Trick.

Hearts and the wheel

Each instinctual axe leaves a 7-second Heart. Follow it with the next affinity in the wheel — Volant → Rampant → Durant → Eldritch — to land a Sunstrider or Moonstalker combo.

Capture

Mark a beast with Capture, get it low, kill it. Lower HP and a lower level than yours raise the odds; anything above your level can't be taken.

Kinship

Borrow takes on your summoned familiar's classification — eight of them, from Beastkin to Ashkin — and turns Beast Mode into a matching utility action.

Start here

Your first familiar is Cu Sith, granted by the job quest. From there, the getting started page lists what's capturable in each zone.

Welcome to the Beastmaster guide

Beastmaster is a limited melee DPS job in the same mould as Blue Mage: instead of learning a fixed kit, you capture monsters and command their abilities. Being limited cuts both ways — it gets its own exclusive content, the Crucible of the Unbroken, but it can’t queue into Ultimates, Criterion dungeons or Field Operations.

To unlock it you need the A Realm Reborn main scenario finished and any job at level 50 or higher. Then talk to the Excited Adventurer in New Gridania (X: 11.8, Y: 13.6).

Job quests come at levels 1, 8, 18, 30, 40 and 50. From 30 onward they’re gated on the Crucible: the level 30 quest wants the first board cleared, the level 40 quest the second, and level 50 wants boards three through five.
